Use BTDF just for bindings (no projects in solution)

I have several BizTalk applications which I deploy with the BTDF.
Now I have an application with only bindings, so in fact a "copy" application with no schemas, mappings or orchestrations.

Since I use the BTDF for all applications I'd like to use it for this one also, but I'm not sure if it is possible. If I use the VS 2010 menu options of the BTDF then nothing happens.

Is there a requirement that there has to be at least one VS project in the solution?

Yes, if you don't have at least one project of some sort in the solution, then it can't tell what deployment configuration to use (Debug or Release) and it just doesn't do anything at all. Add an empty C# project to the solution and that will be good enough. You don't have to deploy or do anything with it. Just set IncludeSchemas, IncludeOrchestrations and IncludeTransforms to false in your .btdfproj and the rest will work fine with only bindings. (I'm assuming a new deployment project created via the Add New Project wizard.)
