Updating Bindings

Topics: Getting Started/Beginner

Hi,

Whats the best way to update the PortBindingsMaster.xml with a new set of bindings? I've added a load of new bindings and exported from BizTalk. Now I'd like to add those to PortBindingsMaster.

Do I need to replace PortBindingsMaster and re-add the place holders?

Thanks,

Andy

I normally just do what you've done so far: configure the new bindings and export them from BizTalk Admin, usually right next to PortBindingsMaster.xml (like PortBindingsMasterNew.xml).  Next I use WinMerge or another diff/merge tool to compare new to old, and either bring the new pieces directly over in the merge tool, or copy and paste them into PortBindingsMaster.xml in the VS XML editor.  If you do use the VS XML editor to edit the file, watch very carefully for the auto-formatter.  It can and will break certain pieces of the binding file data.

I don't know if you've gone all the way to unencoding the nested XML in PortBindingsMaster.xml yet (ApplyXmlEscape = true), but if you have, then you need to decode the newly exported bindings file before doing the diff (using ElementTunnel.exe).

The process above is usually pretty straightforward and easy, the key being a nice diff tool to clearly show the differences.

Thanks,
Tom

Thanks for the reply, good to hear I'm on the right track.

I found this complete and quick explanation of the process...

and BTDF FAQ ref "Q: How do I set up my binding file for the first time?" http://biztalkdeployment.codeplex.com/wikipage?title=Frequently%20Asked%20Questions&referringTitle=Documentation
