Dry run installation/deployment

Hi, don't know if this has been asked before.

Is it possible to do a dry run of a deployment?  i.e. install the MSI and have it do all the checks that it would normally do - but not actually do the deployment?

Sometimes a deployment will fail because of old artefacts left deployed (or any number of reasaons really) . That will minimize production downtime.

Hi Mark,

That's a good idea but it would require completely separate and complex logic paths.  A good share of the process uses btstask.exe, which doesn't have any kind of preview/test feature.  All of the validation would have to be built through custom MSBuild tasks.  I'd say that it's a very significant development effort given the amount of artifacts and cases that the Framework handles.

Thanks,
Tom
